You’ll be just going through your little life
and then out of seemingly nowhere something
will make its way in rather coincidentally
or randomly and it warps you back then
occupies the rest of your day (at the bare minimum).
Some things just take you to a past place and you don’t
really know when they’re going to show up
right in front of you. Not too much you can do
about it except lean into the nostalgia—like how
if a song’s stuck in your head you have to play it
at least once and remember what it has meant to you
for it to make its egress from your brain, at least
for the time being. And occasionally you have to get
experiential with it, like when I saw a 12-pack of
soda flavors, bought it and immediately applied some
balm from the Dr. Pepper-flavored tube. It tasted nice
but the moisture was fleeting. Not how I remembered it
from the first time I touched a girl’s lips who was wearing it.
But some things you just can’t get back. The true excitement
won’t ever return. Still, though: moisturization is key.
That’s not something I’ll ever forget.
